Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program Work Tasks
Fish Augmentation

Augmenting populations of endangered native fishes - the razorback sucker and bonytail - is a major component of the LCR MSCP as this activity helps maintain extant populations, reducing the likelihood of these species' extinction. Augmentation also provides opportunities to study these rare species and develop the scientific database for both fishes. Many life history questions can be examined by monitoring, tracking, and otherwise observing these fish once they have been reared and released. As mentioned in the Final Fish Augmentation Plan published in August 2006, the goal of the LCR MSCP is to provide a total of 660,000 razorback sucker and 620,000 bonytail for reintroduction into the Colorado River over the life of the program.
